很高興去年與美國克萊門森大學（Clemson University）社會學系陳建妃教授（Chien-fei Chen） 交流後，雙方持續保持聯繫與學術對話。今年暑假，也很開心再次邀請陳建妃教授蒞臨彰師地理，與系上師長進行研究交流與討論。
交流中，東海大學王維邦教授分享 LTSER 彰化站的社會調查成果，以及整合型計畫「彰化海岸能源地景與地方結構變遷的互動關係」的研究架構與分析成果；宋郁玲特聘教授 也分享其長期在彰化海岸社會生態系統累積的訪談成果與重要發現。針對這些研究內容，陳建妃教授從國際期刊發表的角度，提供許多具體建議，包括如何更細緻地檢視分析變項的適切性、如何聚焦研究亮點，以及如何將在地研究轉化為具有國際對話潛力、值得被看見的觀點。
此外，陳建妃教授也分享她在美國整合各郡尺度的社會與基礎設施資料庫、以及耶魯大學社會面公開資料庫的經驗，並進一步討論如何讓資料平台、研究成果與分析架構被更多人使用與看見，對於本系未來在社會調查資料整合、比較研究與國際發表上，都帶來很大的啟發。
特別的是，這場交流正值颱風巴威來襲前夕，系上老師們仍持續投入研究計畫與論文討論，從彰化海岸的社會調查、能源地景，到資料整合與國際期刊發表策略，大家都討論得十分投入。這樣的交流不只是分享研究成果，更是一次重新梳理研究問題、打磨論文觀點、思考如何與國際學術社群對話的重要機會。
本次參與交流的師長包括：宋郁玲特聘教授、王素芬院長、陳毅青主任、東海大學王維邦教授、臺中教育大學呂恬萱教授，以及LTSER團隊。也期待未來持續深化與國際學者的合作交流，讓彰師地理在地方研究、社會生態與國際學術對話中持續累積能量。✨
International Exchange | Professor Chien-fei Chen from Clemson University Revisited NCUE Geography
We were delighted to welcome Professor Chien-fei Chen from the Department of Sociology at Clemson University back to the Department of Geography at NCUE this summer. Following last year’s exchange, it was a pleasure to continue our academic conversations and deepen the collaboration through another round of research discussion.
During the meeting, Professor Wei-Pang Wang from Tunghai University introduced the social survey results of the LTSER Changhua site, as well as the overall framework and research findings of the integrated project on “Energy landscapes and local structural change along the Changhua coast." Distinguished Professor Yu-Ling Song also shared her long-term interview findings on the social-ecological system of the Changhua coast.
In response to these ongoing studies, Professor Chen offered valuable suggestions from the perspective of international journal publication. Her comments focused on how to examine the suitability of analytical variables more carefully, how to sharpen the key message of a study, and how to turn local empirical research into arguments that can speak to a wider international audience.
Professor Chen also shared her experience in building and using county-level social and infrastructure databases in the United States, as well as working with publicly available social datasets from Yale University. Her presentation opened up many useful discussions on data integration, comparative research, and ways to make research platforms and findings more visible and accessible.
What made this exchange especially memorable was that it took place just before Typhoon Bavi approached Taiwan. Even with the storm on the typhoon, faculty members remained engaged in discussing research projects and journal papers, from coastal social surveys and energy landscapes in Changhua to data integration and publication strategies. It was a valuable opportunity to refine research questions, strengthen paper arguments, and think more carefully about how local research can connect with broader international conversations.
Participants in this exchange included Distinguished Professor Yu-Ling Song, Dean Su-Fen Wang, Chair Yi-Chin Chen, Chair Wei-Pang Wang from Tunghai University, Professor Tien-Hsuan Lu from National Taichung University of Education, and members of the LTSER team.
We look forward to continuing these international exchanges and building stronger collaborations in the future, especially in the areas of local studies, social-ecological research, and international academic dialogue.
