Overview
Founded in 1993, the Department of Geography at National Changhua University of Education (NCUE) was established to cultivate qualified geography teachers for secondary schools and to train researchers in geography. Originally part of the College of Education, the Department joined the College of Arts when the latter was founded in October 2000.
Our teaching and research span four main areas: physical geography, human geography, geographic information science, and geography education. The Department places strong emphasis on fieldwork, and most courses include field investigation so that students learn to connect theory with practice.
Degree Programs
- Bachelor's Program — established 1993, admitting about 40 students each year (128 credits required for graduation)
- Master's Program in Geography — established 1998, admitting 13 students each year (28 credits)
- Ph.D. Program in Geography and Environmental Resources — established 2002 and renamed in 2017, admitting 3 students each year (28 credits)
A five-year combined bachelor's–master's pathway is also available.
Research Focus
The Department's teaching and research are organised around the theme of "Sustainable Environment, Resilient Society", covering five areas: environmental change, disaster governance, spatial data science, urban and cultural studies, and green industries.
